Policies for Howie's Recycling & Trash Service

Trash & Curbside Recycling Terms & Conditions

  • All trash must be at the curb the night before your pickup day.
  • Occasional extra trash is allowed. Extra waste must be bagged or bundled and placed beside your container/tote.
  • Two bags of yard waste are allowed at no extra cost per pickup. Each additional bag will be charged on your account at $2.00 per bag.
  • Howie’s will not dump any trash tote owned by or marked with another trash provider logo or identification.
  • For larger items such as furniture, carpet, and other items, you must schedule a special pickup. Please use our service request form to request an oversized/bulky waste pickup. You can describe the item you need picked-up, and upload a photo for us to give you an accurate quote.
  • We cannot pick up hazardous waste (tires, paint, chemicals, etc.) These materials can be dropped off at our Recycling Center at 625 S. 10th Street every second Saturday of the month, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. In addition, hazardous waste can be dropped off at the Riley County Shops, 6245 Tuttle Creek Blvd, Manhattan, KS, 66503, Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or visit the Riley County website for more information.
  • Invoices are mailed or emailed on the first business day of each quarter or month, depending on the individual customer billing cycle. Payments may be dropped off or mailed to our office at 625 S. 10th Street, Manhattan, KS. All payments must be received two business days before your scheduled pickup day to avoid service disruption.
  • Past due accounts of 30 days from invoice date will result in a temporary credit hold on the account until payment is made.
  • No cancellation refund will be issued for under $20. If you expect bulk move-out trash, please submit this order via our service request form or call us to make arrangements for final pickup.
  • Customers on the Annual Plan are required to make a full payment within the initial 30 days. Failure to do so will result in their account being transitioned to a quarterly payment schedule.

Privacy Policy

Any information shared with Howie's Recycling & Trash Service is under certain privacy provisions. Information shared with Howie's Recycling & Trash Service will be handled by our organization and not shared, sold, or reproduced. Howie's Recycling & Trash Service will send personally identifiable information about you to other companies or people when:

  • We need to share your information to provide the product or service you have requested;
  • We need to send the information to companies who work on behalf of Howie's Recycling & Trash Service to provide a product or service to you. (Unless we tell you differently, these companies do not have any right to use the personally identifiable information we provide to them beyond what is necessary to assist us.);
  • To fulfill your requests for certain products and services;
  • We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process.

State of Kansas Non-Ferrous Metals Recycling Regulations

Effective July 1, 2020, all businesses in Kansas that purchase recycled non-ferrous metals were required to register with the State of Kansas and begin implementation of new rules for purchasing these materials. Among these requirements, Howie's must gather the following information from each recycler. This information is then uploaded to a Kansas Bureau of Investigations database.

  • Seller's full name
  • A photo I.D. for each transaction over $5.00
  • A photo of the license plate and vehicle of the person selling the materials
  • Make, model, and color of vehicle
  • Phone number
  • Address if different than what's on the photo I.D.

Howie's Recycling abides by and follows all State of Kansas regulations for the documentation of recycling purchases and transactions.

Certified Weight Scale

Howie's scale, located at 626 S. 10th Street, is available for public certified weights. The scale is certified by the State of Kansas. We provide all customers with a three-part printed ticket upon completion of the weighing process. The fee is $10.00 (which includes two weighings).
